The McCain campaign and John himself are very good at shooting from the hip with one word answers that are whatever they think their base wants to hear. John made that pretty clear at Saddleback.

My thoughts are these, and Irishbabe brings up a great point. I have posted this exact same thing elsewhere, but its how I feel, so I will share.
If Sarah were a Sam, would we be questioning her choice to go ahead and run?

My thoughts are this, it was revealed before asking her to run alongside and McCain, if he was deadset on choosing a woman, could have chose so many more.

Also, Bristol is almost 18.. should her mother's dream not be realized because her daughter made a mistake? Doesn't seem fair to me. I think that this, unfortunately, is commonplace anymore and parents are doing an effective job of being themselves, running thier lives, some run major corporations (and other equally as hard jobs, dr's, lawyers, etc), and still manage to be there for thier kids.

It's a family issue, and not one we should be overly concerned about. Some bring up the fact that she didn't know what was going on in her own family, and she's supposed to be in charge? Well, from what I have read, she has known for some time, and the kids have decided to get married, and its been in the works for months. Sure, she may have not known at the time that her kid was having SEX, but who does unless they are caught in the act? Sure, some kids are totally honest with thier parents and tell them what they are thinking, but most teenagers don't. It happens. They think that they are making the right CHOICE that is for them. You can't fault them for that.

I will admit, when I first heard this, this am, I thought... oh crap, it's over. But then I thought, why should it be?

Fact is Molly, here and on other forums, that the Biden "scandal" isn't going to get as much play as the Palin "scandal" because of the nature of the scandal. IMHO one isn't any more or less as bad as the other, because in my eyes, both are a non issue. It's a family issue, not a nation issue, on both accounts. How about holding the people running up to thier standards, not holding them accountable for the choices that thier family members, no matter how close, make? Fact is people are who they are, and you can't be held accountable for the choices, however hugely bad they are, for thier own decisions. Bristol Palin is 17 years old and not stupid, she knew she was making a bad choice, and now she has to deal with it, and its nice that her family can and will stand with her. Joe Biden's family members are definitely adults and made their own choices, if Joe decided to stand with or against, thats his choice. Its a non issue for me, and only fodder for tabloid magazines. I'd like to make a decsion based on what the candidates and thier running mates stand for, and the choices THEY have made.

Obama has a brother living in a hut in Kenya. Despite making over $4M in 2007, Barack The Saviour has done nothing to help him. At least Palin is sticking by her family.

None of my business, I know, but on the Palin teen preggers issue... I'm happy to see the family standing by their daughter, I just hope she doesn't run and get married to the father just because of the baby. I don't think that's always the best way to deal with the situation. No matter what, I hope it all works out for her. I wish Palin's daughter the best.

I understand what you're saying...and I would certainly hope you don't tiptoe around threads...how else do we learn from others if we don't debate?

But where has Sarah Palin not lived what she's said?

Kids are going to do stupid things...that is why they are kids. Parents cannot be with their children 24/7, and mistakes are going to be made. Sarah Palin and her family are living their preaching...to the letter. It is obviously not an ideal situation for her daughter, but supporting and loving her is the only possible solution for any caring person. I don't think this affects anything about her whatsoever.

I'm sorry if I (or someone else) made you feel like you couldn't state your opinions, or even fight for them. I hope I didn't infer that...in fact, I've stated several times how nice it is to have a place where *everyone* can have an opinion and is not castigated for it. It's lovely.

Been rolling this Palin teen pregnancy thing around in my mind all day. To be honest, it is a little deflating. It bothers me from the standpoint of, maybe the daughter needed more supervision. Then again, that doesn't always prevent this stuff.

But...dammit...yet another embarrassing news story to explain to my adolescents. The Jamie Lynn Spears thing was bad enough. It's good and right when the parents support pregnant daughters and their babies, but that does not mean these teen pregnancies should be viewed as acceptable.

On the other hand, I was reading an article, in Time I think, which pointed out that Alaska is just different--more of a frontier mentality, harder terrain?--and a teen pregnancy is not all that big a deal in the big picture. People there have known about the Palin girl for a while, and it is what it is. Maybe some alaskan hags can weigh in on this?

Still voting for McCain but.....sigh. I miss Tricia and Julie Nixon. What nice young ladies they were. I know, I know, I'm sure Bristol Palin is very nice, too.....but ah, sometimes I get nostalgic.

I'm just thankful that Palin promotes abstinence only education. If she didn't there's no telling how many kids that daughter would have had by now.

I have a feeling that within a week, perhaps two, there'll be a news conference in which Palin announces that, totally on her own initiative of course, she's decided to decline the position. The same morning it will be announced that McCain has decided to quit drinking until the election.

My personal take on the breaking news about Gov. Palin's pregnant daughter is good for her, especially that she has a strong & supportive family. Having said that, I am unswayed by Gov. Palin's resume'. Yes, she has been a good mayor & might very well be an excellent governor....of a state with less constituents than the county in which I live....which is far from the post populous county in the country. Sen.s McCain & Obama both are bound to surround themselves with the best & brightest folks to guide them through these last few weeks of this electoral year...and one of them will surely do the same when it comes time to select a cabinet.

AGAIN I just wanted to primarily interject, I am ever so PROUD of the way that my fellow death hags can politely continue to agree to disagree. I don't expect any of us to change anyone else's minds here. I'm just so thrilled to be involved with a cyber commUNITY where we can be respectful of each other.

    2) More like if you don't vote, I don't want to hear it; why would I care what anyone has to say if they don't vote? Honestly, that's where you have your say. If you really cared that much, you'd show it. Show it at the polls!

It's not the governments responsibility to create jobs for us. We need to create our own jobs or take that scuzzy job at Burger King. Whatever it takes, do it.

Are you serious? Xena, really? People hunt, that's what we do. Do you feel this way about cows? Frogs? Chickens? I am being completely real. Why is it different?

But that's just it - he doesn't give facts & leave you to make up your mind. He tells you lies that fit his idea & opinions of what he wants you to believe. You're left with no option but to accept what he says, which is wrapped up in a nice package called a "documentary."

I love her, she sounds great. I've never met her. I have never met most of the people i vote for. He probably looked at her record, likes it, spoke to her, liked her, & made his decision.

Most people who would be offended by that statement by Barack wouldn't vote for him anyway.
Ah ah ah, some conservatives protest clinics. I do not have the time nor the desire. that's a very small percentage of people, Brad. Just like the funeral protester freaks.

Lies!! Edwards has to deny it all the time. I'd bet he denies it at least once a day, even if it's only to himself.

<I have a feeling that within a week, perhaps two, there'll be a news conference in which Palin announces that, totally on her own initiative of course, she's decided to decline the position. The same morning it will be announced that McCain has decided to quit drinking until the election.>

    That is funny!

And because they have " said " this I`m suppose to believe it........sorry Ra Ra, respect your post, but that`s a little naive to me.......I don`t believe any of them......and if you read my post more carefully you would have seen I made a point of stating that wasn`t a given.......most states would throw a fit, as would a fair amount of people......I`m not saying I believe in abortion, but I DO believe government has no business telling me what I can and cannot do with my body........I think if the court thought the public backlash wouldn`t scald them, they`d overturn it in a minute......and that`s not to say it won`t happen in the future.......believeing something because they said it, is something I will never do.........and that goes for both sides, and both candidates.......and especially the Supreme Court

And no, you were not being an ass. Saying what is on your mind is your right. Even if we disagree politically, everyone can find common ground on something (Death Hags Unite!)

I think her daughter needs her more that the country does--- it should not be condoned that the young chicks are getting knocked up and it is ok----- IT IS NOT OK---- I know the daughter is a bit older--

but my opinion is if you are old enough to put out-- you are old enough to take the precautions of getting pregnant-- there is no excuse
I think Palin was a good vp choice
-- I just think her family needs her a bit more right now-

kids these days dont think shit out like they should-- kids are for life--not a fad-
    wtf has happened to society
    ok -- I am done
