Police in Vietnam have shut down an operation selling recycled condoms.
I haven't figured out yet what the problem is; unless maybe it's because they offered them as "new".
I mean, I've been getting condoms at Goodwill and garage sales and from that guy in the overcoat down on the corner forever, just like everybody else; right?
They confiscated approximately 345,000 used condoms from a warehouse that - according to a woman detained during the operation - had been boiled in water, reshaped on a wooden phallus, then repackaged for sale.
I guess the wooden phallus was cheaper than hiring from the local workforce.
The owner of the warehouse reported that they received a "monthly input of used condoms from an unknown person"; whom I hope does not have a day job in a dentist's office.
They are also investigating reports of improper disposal of the waste water produced during the process; as the local Vietnamese and Chinese restaurant supply company purchasing it for export to US restaurants failed to maintain proper records of the acquisition and export procedures.
Documenting the chain of ownership is everything when exporting foodstuffs, obviously.

I might have imagined that last part, I don't actually see it when I reread the story.
My apologies if that caused anyone any momentary distress.
